Since i’m nearing the end of my high-end(ish) MAC primer, I thought I would opt for a high street brand that would do the same job without the same price tag!
I’m sure you’ve all heard of Maybelline’s Baby Skin: Instant Pore Eraser by now, and since I had heard mixed reviews I thought I would try it out for myself.
Maybelline’s Instant pore eraser is a silicon based formula in the form of a matte gel. I like the consistency as it’s very light and it instantly blends into the skin. As you would expect this creates a smooth base for make up which is always good however how good is it as an actual primer?
I have acne marks so whether it is able to cover/minimise these as well as my pores is a major factor for me to consider when trying out a face/skin product. I tested the product over 3 weeks varying the amounts I used on some days.
I found that it did not help my foundation last longer and even more disappointingly it didn’t “erase my pores”. It may be ideal if you have barely there pores but for those with larger ones I wouldn’t recommend the product. If you have pock marks or scars, I would say save your money as this will do nothing for them. I did find that my skin wasn’t getting too oily by the end of the day which is a plus, however with it being ‘lightweight’ it just felt like I was applying another layer of moisturiser on my skin.
More than the product itself, I’m disappointed that other bloggers have compared it to the holy grail of primers – Smashbox Photo Finish!
I’m also slightly puzzled as to why it says “only for adults!” on the tube. Perhaps it’s an attempt to be humorous or maybe because they’re aware that the packaging may appeal to teens. Odd.
Regardless of it being just £7.99, I still feel it’s not worth the price tag. I honestly feel you’d be better off buying two of their AMAZING kohl liner that I cannot recommend enough.
Sorry Maybelline, I’m going to have to say this one’s not for me!
Have you tried the product? What are your thoughts?
