I am in my 30s and I have acne prone skin. It sucks out here, so naturally I’m always on the look out for something that will keep my spots at bay whilst ageing gracefully. I am currently looking for someone who can prescribe me retinol but until then I thought I’d try out a retinal. The KSECRET – SEOUL 1988 Serum : Retinal Liposome 2% + Black Ginseng has been all over my FYP so I knew I had to get my hands on it asap.
First Impressions:
The packaging is cute, I’ll give it that. It feels kinda retro, which is always a plus in my book and has a pump mechanism. You can easily control how much comes out so it’s a big thumbs up from me. The serum itself is yellow in colour, lightweight and absorbs quickly. No sticky residue and it dries down transparent. Two weeks in and so far, so good. I haven’t had any reactions or even skin peeling.
I will say though, I have been using tret for a while so I’ve built up tolerance to retinol and didn’t expect to purge. Everyone’s skin is different so I can’t guarantee you won’t purge or peel.
The Claims:
This anti-aging serum is enriched with 2% retinal liposome to combat wrinkles and pigmentation, as well as 58% black ginseng extract for antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and collagen-boosting properties. They say this stuff is like a fountain of youth in a bottle. Wrinkles be gone, skin glow up, the whole shabang. Bold claims and I can only hope all of it is true!
My Experience:
I’ve been using it for about 3 weeks now, and honestly, I really love it so far. My skin does look and feel noticeably smoother, and my skin tone is definitely evening out. I know some of you sceptics are probably thinking yeah right, all that in 3 weeks? I guess that’s the magic of retinal/retinol in high percentages. I am still hoping it will work miracles on my smile lines, but nothing as of yet. Will keep you posted on that!
The Verdict:
Is it a miracle worker? Maybe not. But is it a solid addition to my skincare routine? Absolutely. If you’re looking for something to potentially help with fine lines and overall skin texture, this might be worth a shot. Just remember, consistency is key!
