Gokyuzu Chingford Review

I don’t believe in visiting the same restaurants time and time again. There are just so many undiscovered gems in London, you’d definitely be missing out if you did. One restaurant that I must admit I’ve visited more than a handful of times is Gokyuzu.

This week I went mini golfing with my family at Jurassic falls adventure golf and so of course we had to lunch at Gokyuzu.

It’s the only restaurant there so that why “we had to” but honestly, I was not complaining.

The restaurant is actually huge. My guess is that it could easily seat over 100 people. There have seating both indoors and outdoors so it’s perfect for a summers day.

The decor is cute. Turkish decorative tiles for flooring, comfy yellow seating and turquoise accents. I really like it. What I like most though is that it’s very very clean. It’s been open a good few years that it’s been open and every time I’ve been it hasn’t felt run down or grimey.

The staff are pleasant. They’ll get the job done but I wouldn’t say they’re over friendly.

My obsession with hummus is still going strong so it’s a bit of a disappointment when middle eastern restaurants don’t offer complimentary hummus.

Gokyuzu do however offer a basket of complimentary bread and a generous amount of Tzatziki.

I went with my usual ‘Chicken Shish’ and stuck with the rice it comes with. You can alternatively ask for cous cous. I also ordered some chips on the side. Prices are very reasonable too, my whole meal cost just £10.50 (for a small) and £14.50 for a large Chicken Shish.

Of all the times I’ve been to Gokyuzu, I’ve never had a bad meal. I love the way the chicken is cooked and even the rice is never too dry or too stodgy. It’s definitely up there in my top 10 Turkish places to eat in London.

Much to my protest, after a round of golf we came back for teas, coffees and dessert. Not gonna lie, I am SO glad we did because the desserts were amazing.

We ordered Belgian Chocolate Pudding which was A dark chocolate pudding with Belgian chocolate sauce and a scoop of vanilla ice-cream and Lemon & Mascarpone Cheesecake; A crisp digestive biscuit base topped with a lemon and mascarpone cheesecake, decorated with a smooth lemon curd cream scattered with roasted flaked almonds. Both desserts tasted just as good as they look/sound.

I needed a caffeine hit after a long afternoon, so I went with a latte to go with dessert.

I loved my latte but I’m not a fan of sugar cubes as sweeteners. They leave a weird bitter taste in your mouth. If there was one thing I would change, it would be that.

Both desserts however were demolished instantly. The chocolate pudding in particular was SO good. If you ever visit the restaurant, make sure you leave some room for it, I can guarantee you will not be disappointed.

I would most definitely recommend Gokyuzu as a brilliant Turkish restaurant to visit. It’s one that genuinely keeps me coming back!
