Superblue London Review

Superblue Art are big on creating “experiential art”. In the age of Instagram, this kind of stuff is ridiculously popular and despite terrible initial rating (Timeout gave it a 1 star) I think it’s going to do extremely well here in London.

They’ve already got a huge space in Miami (and we mean huge, it’s 50,000 sq ft), and it’s hugely successful there. They’re now dipping their toes in the waters of the New York and London art scenes with smaller, but nevertheless super cool installations.

Superblue London Review

Yesterday I attended the launch of ‘Silent Fall’ based at Pace Gallery. The Tokyo/London-based artist duo A.A. Murakamithe artists behind Studio Swine, debuts this dynamic new multi- sensory experience.

As you queue up you’re handed just one glove to wear whilst you’re inside the exhibit. As you walk in, it’s eerily beautiful. There is an infinite, futuristic forest, filled with trees of bone-white branches. The mirrored walls give the illusion of the forest being endless.

Having been to Pace Gallery a few months ago, the room is much larger than Yayoi Kusama installations so take advantage of all the space.

As you wander amongst the ‘trees’, you”ll notice that they all produce hundreds of bubbles filled with smoke. As they drop down, you can hold them before they burst and disappear. As each one is caught and bursts, it’ll release a different scent which should remind you of a forest. Incase you’re wondering what that is, it’s things like ‘moss’, ‘rain’ and ‘pine’.

What did I think?

Honestly, I thought it was beautiful. If you really take it in and see the bubbles falling silently it’s hauntingly beautiful. You also can’t help but turn into a child as the bubbles fall around you. I think I would have loved a soundtrack to go with it, I mean if you’re engaging the other senses then why not sound too?

It’s priced at £12 for an adult and £9 for children. This is all good and well but the catch is that you only get to spend 12 minutes in the installation. Obviously the 12 minutes fly by really quickly but it’s a fun experience which will guarantee a smile on your face.

Oh and try not to wear heels as the whole exhibition has grating on the floor and your heels will get stuck!

Where: Pace Gallery, 6 Burlington Gardens, Mayfair, W1S 3ET.
When: From 12th October – tickets are available until January for the moment.

Book your tickets at the Superblue website here.
