Proud City Cabaret is hosting Bollywood Queen, an incredible show bought to you by Naz Choudhury (CEO of Bollywood dance company Bolly Flex). Expect to be taken on an epic immersive journey, from old school Bollywood bangers to cult contemporary classics.
I went along to the launch and spoiler alert, it’s the show of the summer and I can guarantee that everyone is going to be raving about it!
The show is hosted by DJ Tommy Sandhu, who always knows how to get a crowd going and during the breaks we were serenaded by silver fox, Chirag Rao. The show doesn’t follow a particular storyline, unlike it’s predecessor Mumbai Masala, but it has 3 acts which are guaranteed to get you singing along and wowed by the choreography.
My only very small gripe with the show is that it is titled Bollywood Queen but every single dancer was not Indian/South Asian except one. The male dancers were all Asian with varying ages and in my opinion it worked so well and they really did steal the show! The ladies sat next to us who were not Asian also asked us how we felt about there being just 1 Indian dancer because they also thought it was odd.
That aside though, the show is fantastic, there’s no doubt about it. The energy the dancers bring, the choreography and costumes are fantastic. I love that the audience are involved throughout the show (with the help of Tommy) and especially loved the rave ending which got everyone up and dancing.
You can order a 3 course dinner whilst you watch the show or just opt for optional drinks. We were told the food is halal so of course we had to give it a try. The food was nice but you would enjoy the show just as much without a belly full of curry.
