The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density Review

If there’s one product that I have found this year and could not live without it has to be The Ordinary Multi-Peptide Serum for Hair Density. I had grown out of love with The Ordinary products and wasn’t sure whether to try it due to the mixed reviews. I’m not going to lie, it took a while to figure out how best to use it and a lot of consistency but now I can’t be without!

Packaging and product:

The serum comes in a dark glass bottle with a pipette/dropper lid. The product itself is a normal serum like consistency. It’s very runny which makes it really easy to work into the scalp. There is a smell to it which isn’t unbearable but it is still quite unpleasant. Luckily it doesn’t linger for too long.

My hair:

My hair is very dry and the hair strands are very fine. Over the past two years I’ve suffered from significant hair loss and there are patches around my head which have had noticeable hair loss/thinning. In January 2020 I felt like I really had to purchase something to help my hair.

How I used it:

Initially I used it all wrong and was using it like an oil i.e. an hour or two before I washed my hair. I didn’t notice a difference at all so then I sat and properly read the instructions.

I started using the product the day before I was washing it and massaged it into my dry scalp, making sure I was sleeping with the serum in my hair. Luckily we were going through a lockdown so I didn’t care too much if my hair was greasy. With that being said though, my hair is very dry so it wasn’t looking to be bad.

I have to stress that it took 2 – 3 months before I noticed any difference at all. It was only a small subtle change but I noticed baby hair growing at the front of my hairline. When I checked the sides of my head, there was a tiny difference. I had very very fine hair where the patches were and I wouldn’t have noticed it at all had I not been looking for it.

Fast forward another 2 months and I finished the bottle completely. I through it in the bin and didn’t think much of it. It was only when I looked in the mirror last week and as I tied my hair up I randomly noticed that my scalp wasn’t as visible anymore. There’s no way??

Did my hair grow?

I’m struggling to answer this because I don’t know if my hair grew or my very very fine hair strands became thicker. I do feel like I need to keep on using it regularly and consistently to see what happens. Unfortunately I didn’t take “before pictures” as I wasn’t really expecting it to work. I have however taken photos now and will report back once this second bottle finishes (yes I have purchased it again).

I think it’s important for me to state that it will not miraculously grow new hair follicles where they didn’t exist before. If you are experiencing hair thinning, it could possibly help to thicken the hair and give the illusion of fuller hair, which is what I think has happened for me.

Would I but it again? Definitely. My second bottle had just arrived and the promising results have given me the motivation to keep at it and use it consistently. I would be interested to try this with the Philip Kingsley Elasticizer and take multivitamins to see what the effect will be.
