As most of you already know November is NaNoWriMo. A month where thousands upon thousands take to their laptops, notepads and maybe even typewriters in an attempt to write a novel of at least 50,000 words before the month is over. I’m going to be completely honest and say that I have failed miserably for the past two years. This year I’ve been so tempted to start again but I’ve decided not to. At least not the way it’s supposed to be done.
I recently wrote a post about wanting to move in a different direction and wanting to explore my creative writing skills. It’s hit me now that what better way to do it than to use NaNoWriMo to motivate me to write. I’ve never done this before so do bare with me and all constructive criticism is welcome. Here’s my first poem ever:
My Secret Lover
Meet me in our happy place I whispered
The one where only you and I know
I waited for days and days
But still you didn’t show.
Eyes closed, my tears hit the sheets
Why didn’t you visit
Whenever I went to sleep?
As darkness falls once again
And the stars begin to gleam
I wonder excitedly
If you’ll visit me again, in our secret place,
In my sacred shrouded dreams.
