The Exhibition Rooms – Restaurant Review

This year I visited The Exhibition Rooms in Crystal Palace for a lovely Christmas meal. I had never heard of the restaurant even though I work in the area and had unwittingly walked passed it numerous times. That being said, the outside decor although non-descript, is still full of character in it’s own right. Inside, it’s a medium sized restaurant with a rustic feel & laid back atmosphere to it.

When I was given the menu initially, I was immediately intrigued by their adventurous recipes!

The waitresses were extremely friendly and nothing was too much trouble for them. The restaurant was extremely busy with Christmas ‘do’s’ but the waitresses were still very attentive and the food was bought out in good.

My starter was a delicious chunky vegetable and pearl barley soup with rosemary infused olive oil. To be honest, I was dreading huge bits of boiled vegetables in a watery liquid but luckily it was all cut to a nice small size. The starter was just the right amount and it was served warm with endless bread rolls and some sort of herb filled butter. Delicious!

For the main I opted for a spiced pumpkin and goat’s cheese tart with cardamom, cumin, green chilli and pear chutney. My mouth is watering as I type this up! It really was scrumptious. If you’re a fan of goat’s cheese you will definitely love this.

To finish, I had chocolate marquise, topped with fresh raspberry sauce and crème Chantilly. I’ll be honest and say that I wasn’t entirely sure on what a marquise was but boy am I glad I opted for this. It was heavenly. Very rich and creamy but the raspberry sauce and cream set it off beautifully.

I’m not sure whether the dishes I had would feature on their menu after the festive season is over but if their food and service is at the standard that it was then it truly is worth a visit! After some din dins we headed downstairs where they have a cosy bar area with plush sofas and weirdly enough a cave in the corner fully equipped with a bed *insert awkward smiley here*.
They also have a lovely heated outdoor area which I imagine would be fantastic on warmer days.

All in all I really liked this restaurant and would definitely visit again. Signing off with a selfie from the day 🙂
