This week I visited Fatt Pundit because I spent most of lockdown staring at their Instagram photos and it was all I could think about for months. The restaurant have confirmed that everything is halal so naturally, I was salivating at the entire menu on my way there.
It’s situated a short walk away from with Tottenham Court Road station or Oxford Circus station, so it’s very easy to get to.

The two floor restaurant looks small but can actually seat up to 60 people. It does however (and understandably so!) get extremely busy so booking is essential. Another reason to book is so you remember that the restaurant closes at 2:30 and opens up again at 5:30. I HATE when restaurants in Central London do this. With that being said, that’s pretty much the only *slightly* negative thing I can say about the restaurant.
The decor is all exposed concrete walls with accents of red and blue which reflect street signs of East Asian cities. Painted murals found on the ancient walls of this historic area have been resurrected on the walls complimented with sporadic paintings of the Fatt Pundit himself. The vibe is a relaxed cool and the service is both helpful and friendly.
You’re told straight away that the plates are small so they recommend that you try at least 6 – 8 dishes. The compact but creative menu is jam packed with exciting new flavour combinations that perfectly unite the flavours of India and China. The hero dish is definitely Momos; spicy dumplings originating from Tibet, although I have to say, it’s not the first place I’ve had them (Sohowala do them too).

We decided to order chicken Momo’s to start with. These are steamed dumplings served straight from steel steamers, and served with a spicy chutney. My goodness do these live up to the hype. They literally melt in your mouth. There is no way 3 is enough, you bet I ordered a second round for myself!
The Crackling Spinach was like nothing I’ve tasted before and so moreish. I loved how well the yoghurt and pomegranate worked with the spinach. Definitely going to attempt to make this dish at home!
My favourites were the Lollipop Chicken and Bombay Chilli Prawns. They were both flavoursome in their own ways without being too spicy or overpowering. Just beautiful.

I had a few people over on Instagram ask about the pricing and I have to be honest, it’s Soho pricing. The food is very very good and so it does feel somewhat justified but be prepared as the dishes are small.
Overall Fatt Pundit was way better than I had expected. This is coming from someone who generally doesn’t like eating Indian food out (because I can get it at home, duh).
Would I recommend it? 100% yes. Go and order EVERYTHING!
Would I visit again? I really really would.
