Last weekend I was invited to the launch of Big Mike’s Rooftop Lime. Let’s be honest, anything on a rooftop and I’m down, especially when the weather is this good! After accepting the invite, I realised that I actually had no idea what a Rooftop Lime was, so to save myself some embarrassment I did some digging.
A ‘lime’ is to chill at the beach with friend. After the year we’ve had, this sounded perfect!
Big Mike’s Calypso Kitchen
Big Mike’s Calypso Kitchen is a Bajan BBQ joint that has come to BoxPark (Croydon). I feel like it’s the perfect addition to an already eclectic selection of cuisines. You can check out the menu for the restaurant here [URL now removed] – both the chicken and goat are halal.
The Rooftop Lime
Big Mike is taking over the rooftop terrace at Boxpark Croydon most* Sundays. There you’ll be able to chill out with your loved ones whilst enjoying and epic BBQ menu. Nothing but good food and good vibes!
So what’s available to enjoy?
BBQ MENU (available on the terrace from 12pm while stocks last!)
- Torched chilli king prawns (5) – £9.99
- Jerk chicken – £9.99
- And for those who want to have it all…. Calypso Combo – chicken and prawns – £9.99
- Big Mac cheese – Bajan Mac Pie made with a four cheese sauce – regular (£6) and large (£10).
All main dishes are served with Calypso salad.
- Calypso salad – Diced cucumber, essence of onion sweet peppers, pineapple & smashed avocado sweet corn drizzled with olive oil & zesty lime, and sprinkled with sea salt flakes & cracked black pepper. Regular (£5) and large (£7.50).
Complete your meal with a pitcher of rum punch!
At the launch there was a vegan option available. If you are vegan/vegetarian, try getting in touch with them to see if they will be able to cater for you.
How was it really?
Guys I’m going to be real with you – The food was perfection! I tried both the prawns and chicken, with the salad and my goodness, I wasn’t expecting it to taste this good. The prawns were my fave and I probably could have eaten another 10! Definitely try the Jerk and Twerk sauce too. Not one unseasoned meat in sight.
Big Mike’s Rooftop Lime is the perfect way to spend a Sunny summer’s afternoon. Whether you’re out on a date or wanting to spend time with a group of friends, it’s the perfect setting. He’s even bringing a steel pan band to keep the vibes going all afternoon and into the evening.
