Darkfield Arcade review

Unlike previous Darkfield productions, ARCADE is a standalone piece that doesn’t require prior knowledge of their other works. As you stand in front of a gaming cabinet, you’re presented with a simple choice: press the button for “yes” or ignore it for “no.” Your decisions shape the narrative, leading you down different paths and influencing the outcome of the story. You have to be quick though so sometimes the pressure to make a decision can change the course of the outcome of the game.

With its immersive 360-degree audio and captivating storytelling, ARCADE transports you to a world of perpetual war where you take on the character of ‘milk’. The voice acting is exceptional, adding depth and humanity to the characters. The game’s nostalgic aesthetic and gameplay mechanics will resonate with fans of classic video games, while its thought-provoking themes will appeal to those seeking a more profound experience.

ARCADE is a game of choices and consequences. Your decisions have a tangible impact on the story, and the weight of your choices can be felt throughout the experience. While the plot can be a bit convoluted, it’s ultimately a minor flaw in an otherwise exceptional piece.

Would I recommend it? Yes! Such a unique and truly immersive concept. I will however say if you’re claustrophobic or afraid of complete darkness, maybe make sure you’re near the door.
