Bvlgari Serpenti Metamorphosis exhibition at Saatchi Gallery Review

Luxury Italian fashion and jewellery house Bulgari has partnered with award-winning artist Refik Anadol to host Serpenti Metamorphosis; a unique exhibition at the Saatchi Gallery celebrating its iconic motif – the serpent.

Bulgari has launched their brand-new immersive experience which delves into the brand’s representations of the serpent throughout its history. It uncovers the intricacies of the snake it’s based on, and showcasing its rebirth and personalities in the context of jewellery. This exhibition will also mark the beginning of Bulgari’s celebrations marking the 75th anniversary of Serpenti in 2023.

The centrepiece of Serpenti Metamorphosis is an installation by Anadol, which promises to be one of the biggest multimedia artworks generated by artificial intelligence. The piece builds on the success of a digital experience staged by Anadol and Bulgari on the Piazza Duomo in Milan last year and has been created by machine-learning algorithms trained on more than 200 million images of nature, and designed to mimic the evolution of a snake.

The multi-sensory experience surrounds visitors with fragrances synonymous with Bulgari, alongside images and sketches from the house’s archive. Highlights include an exclusive selection of Serpenti pieces, spanning heritage jewellery and watches dating from the 1940s to the present day, as well as the latest high jewellery creations by the Roman jeweller.

What did I think?

As with most exhibitions at the Saatchi Gallery, it was really cool. NFT galleries are making a big entrance this year and no matter how many I go to, I still love them. The room where the installation is held is quite small and with the screens on all day, it does get hot inside. That aside, its stunning and your time inside isn’t timed so if you really want that instagrammable shot, you can take your time. Be sure to take your time and really enjoy the beauty in the jewellery that is on display and the sketches and work that goes into creating the iconic pieces.

Overall, it’s a relatively small exhibition but it’s free and something a little different – def worth a visit!

When: 25th November – 23rd December
