Stila Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick Review

This month I’ve been trialling a brand that I had never seen or tried before. Still on the hunt for the perfect liquid lipstick nude, I had a little browse around Selfridges a few weeks ago and came across Stila. I vaguely remembered seeing them mentioned on my twitter feed and the shades for the Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick’s were so beautiful that I got a little bit carried away and ended up buying 4.

The shades I purchased were: Aria, Patina, Bacca and Amore.

The lipsticks comes in strong glass tubes with gold caps. The wands are a standard size with a doe foot applicator. No complaints there at all.

Over the last few weeks I’ve been trying out all the different shades on various occasions. Whether it was an 8 hour work day or just on a night out, either way one thing is clear, these lipsticks are very wearable. On retailer websites they’re described as a creamy-matte formula with bold shades and in that respect they definitely live up to their description.

The Stay All Day Liquid Lipstick’s are supposed to stay in place for 6 hours and after giving them a go I’ll be honest, they lasted 4 at best before I needed a touch up. If I was going to be eating or drinking anything then you can guarantee that I’d need to run to the bathroom once I’d finished.

I found that the lipsticks transfer A LOT and sometimes I’d have lipstick marks on my chin or cheeks randomly due to it transferring so much. I’d ended up in the bathroom at work on numerous occasions frustratingly attempting to get the marks off without having to redo my foundation. If you’re like me and like to over line a little bit then this is not the product to do it with. It will either come off, bleed or transfer leaving your lips looking very oddly shaped (speaking from experience here!).

Since they’re not very long lasting, the lipsticks are easy to take off but sometimes the process can be a little bit messy. They don’t stain too much either which is always a good thing. I do like that you’re not limited to just one coat (like other brands *cough* kylie lip kits *cough*) and they don’t crumble either.

Something else that I noticed, and perhaps it was just a fault in the ones I purchased or perhaps not but they seemed to have variations in their formula’s. Out of the four lipsticks I bought I can very easily split them into two groups, Aria and Patina and Bacca and Amore. Both Aria and Patina are creamier and more opaque than Bacca and Amore. Even in the swatches that are below, you can see that the latter two seem a little bit watered down. All of them however require at least two coats to get even coverage.

These liquid lipsticks are priced at £16 or £18 (depending on where you purchase them from) each, which is the average price range when it comes to liquid lipsticks however I’m not so sure that I would purchase these again. They would be ok for a quick meeting but for someone who works long hours and takes very few breaks, the cons outweigh the pros. Perhaps if the formula was a little longer lasting and didn’t transfer so much I might reconsider because the shades are still stunning but for the moment I’ll be saving these for the days where I have a mirror handy at all times.
