Breadcrumbs Game Review

Staying indoors during lockdown has been excruciating for me. I LOVE London. The city has so much to see and experience and despite being a Londoner all my life, there’s still so much that I haven’t yet discovered yet. Once the restrictions had lifted slightly, one of the first things I did was book myself on to a Breadcrumbs experience.

Breadcrumbs hunts are an immersive and fun way to discover some of the best parts of London in a completely different light. All you need is a charged mobile phone, your smarts and preferably some comfortable walking shoes!

How does it work?

You’re given an initial location to begin your treasure hunt and once you’re ready to go, you send a text to get the game started. A short back story and cryptic clues are then sent to you either via text or Facebook Messenger – whichever you prefer.

Generally you’re kept within an area so you won’t be travelling too far out from where you started. They do let you know the starting point and where you’ll end up if your hunt isn’t inside a building.

Breadcrumbs suggest that you will need around 2 hours to complete the trail, which seems about right. There are no time limits which is perfect because you can stop for drinks or lunch without worrying about time restraints.

If you get stuck you can get hints by sending “where”, “what” or “solve” and they’ll send you a hint along the way.

Mrs Lovett’s Apprentice

Breadcrumbs Game Review

Breadcrumbs very kindly suggested we try out Mrs Lovett’s Apprentice and since the weather was great it seemed perfect. We made our way to Temple and got started. I have to say this isn’t my first text based treasure hunt so I was familiar with solving cryptic messages. With that being said, Breadcrumbs clues were very well thought out. They have clearly taken the time to really look into the surroundings and thought up clues that will really get you thinking.

We didn’t actually realise that we wouldn’t get told when to stop and take a break so we kept going until almost the very end. So one thing I would say is if you feel tired or hungry, take a break whenever you feel like. There’s plenty of food and drinks places along the way.

Is the trail suitable for children?

Most of the clues are suitable for older children but I do think that the trail would be better suited for adults. Since the trail is based outdoors, buggies would be fine. There are small alleyways to navigate but I do think they’re big enough for buggies.

Is it worth it?

Overall, I thought Mrs Lovett’s Apprentice was so much fun! I’ve literally been recommending it to everyone that i can. It makes for such a great date idea or even a date out with your mates. The hunt is priced at #15 per person (and there is no option to book just one ticket). For a 2 hours hunt it is pricey but it makes for a great day out.

A day after you finish you’ll receive an email with your ‘treasure hunt results’. It will detail how many questions you got right the first time, the number of times you asked for help and how long you spent on the hunt. There is no way to pause the hunt so if you do take time out to eat it does get included. I’m pretty proud to say we got 20/20 questions correct! Although one of the questions had us pulling our hair out.

One of the things I do wish they had done is collaborated with some of the restaurants/pubs to get us drinks or even a pie if we’re really keeping it on theme but this may be due to Covid restraictions. Either way, it doesn’t affect the quality of the hunt too much.

Would i recommend it? 100% yes. It’s so much fun and really tests your smarts. Make sure you are wearing comfy shoes and a charged mobile phone!

Would I play again? Definitely. Can’t wait to try out one of the ones in a museum.
