My Top 3 Beauty Hacks For Winter

Ah November, the sun has finally buggered off into hiding and the cold weather is quickly creeping in. I think after such a long summer I’m actually totally embracing it. I’ve never been a morning person though, so frosty mornings are always awful for me. Since I have so much trouble getting myself up and ready, I’ve come up with a few little “hacks” to make your life a little bit easier this winter.

Pebble Grey Vanity Mirror

Illuminated mirror – It’s that annoying time of year where if you’re working the 9-5 grind, it’s dark when you wake up and dark when you go to sleep. You’ll also know that there is nothing worse than doing your makeup in that poor light, commuting to work and then when you do get in to work and have a look in the mirror you think “what the hell happened to me?! Did I actually commute looking like this?”

This winter I was lucky enough to be sent this Pebble Grey vanity mirror and it has honestly changed my life. It’s 3X magnification means that it’s enough to show you all your poor and the eyebrow hairs you might have missed. I love that the mirror is completely flat rather than slightly convex, so it doesn’t make your eyes go funny when you look at yourself. The best thing about it is that the LED lights are so good at illuminating your face, your makeup will be on fleek all day, every day. Plus it doubles up as a ring light too.

Spritzer/Atomiser – When I first purchased this I kid you not people laughed at me. “What a waste” they said “What do you want that for?” and a month later, these same people are asking where I got mine from. So why should you invest in a spritzer ( I think the correct term may be atomiser but I like the sound of spritzer better)? Well, how many times have you sat down with all your makeup ready to get your war paint on and then realised your beauty blender isn’t wet? Yup, we’ve all been there and there’s nothing worse than having to run to the bathroom (which is always freezing!) in the winter. Now that I have my spritzer on hand though, I’m good to go whenever I want. My beauty blender can easily be dampened without any hassle.
I got my 100ml spray bottle from Muji for just £2.95 – You can view them online here.

Microfibre towel – Ok so I’ve heard of microfibre towels and I use them in my home regularly to dust down surfaces etc but I had never thought to try a microfibre towel for my hair. Last week I visited my hairdressers and was talking to my stylist about my hair falling out and breaking a lot recently and he explained that microfibre towels are so much safer and gentler on the hair.

Once you’ve removed excess water from your hair all you need to do wrap your hair into the microfiber towel. It’s that easy. Don’t rub, don’t pull at it, don’t use any friction. Besides, you really won’t need to because Microfiber towels are much more absorbent than regular old bath towels. This means less blow-drying time and therefore less heat to your hair. Microfibre towels are also especially great for people with really thick hair.

I love my lighted mirror as a ring mirror, it makes for amazing close up make up shots! In the mornings I’m working earlier than my boyfriend I can also just use the light from it for my make up without worrying about it looking OTT.
