Face mapping With Dermalogica: Normal Skin Type Product Recommendations

For someone who has had acne, the worst thing anyone can put you through is an analysis of your skin. Even after your acne has subsided you’re left with all the aftermath of scarring and marks to deal with. My trip to Olympia Beauty was a really quick in and out one but the one thing I was determined to have done was the Dermalogica face mapping.

Face mapping With Dermalogica product review

Dermalogica is a brand that has a special place in my heart. They know exactly what they’re doing when it comes to skin care and no matter what your skin type, they’ve got something for you. Now I know ‘skin mapping’ sounds pretty scary but honestly, it’s really not. It’s basically just having a one to one with a Dermalogica expert and getting some product recommendations based on your skin type.

I was a little bit anxious about my skin being scrutinised because I know just how awful mine is so as soon as I was asked to tell the lovely skin expert a little bit about my skin, I was totally honest and explained all about my horrific experience of acne and the treatment I used for it. What I loved was that the helpful skin analyst Kelly knew all about Roaccutane and the effects it has on skin so it was really easy to discuss my skin with her. She had a good look at my skin and made some notes on a chart as we went along. I learnt that I actually have normal skin type with slight dehydration in my forehead. From an ex-acne sufferer, this was music to my ears  and I was a little surprised because I had just assumed that since I was prone to acne, my skin would be combination type.

Since I haven’t seen too much information on ‘normal’ skin types and what products to use, I thought I’d share the products recommended to me so you will know what to look for.

To start with I was recommended Precleanse. Kelly explained the double cleansing process and how by just using one cleansing product, it’s possible dirt and oil is just getting moved around my face and not being washed off. This first step would allow all the dirt to be lifted before getting down to the real skin cleanse. To finish off the double cleanse I was told the Ultra Calming Cleanserir?t=dainthdr 21&l=as2&o=2&a=B000PKUYYW
would be ideal as my skin is a little sensitive and we don’t want to dry it out or irritate it in any way.

I had explained to Kelly that I wanted to get rid of any scarring that I had left and we talked about the benefits of exfoliation. I am a huge fan of Daily Microfoliantir?t=dainthdr 21&l=as2&o=2&a=B000980PGM, it’s a gentle yet highly effective exfoliator that I’ve tried in the past and it really agreed with my skin. Kelly said this product is ideal for acne prone skin that is also sensitive. She also recommended C-12 Pure Bright Serum to help combat hyperpigmentation and brighten skin.

My biggest fear is that my acne will return with a vengeance and so Kelly recommended that I try the Overnight Clearing Gelir?t=dainthdr 21&l=as2&o=2&a=B002QESTUQ. This godsend helps clear skin, calm inflammation and prevent future breakouts by reducing excess sebum, removing impaction plugs and eliminating bacteria that contribute to congestion.

As much as I love Dermalogica and as great as Kelly was at promoting the brand, the biggest thing stopping me from buying more of their products is the price point. If I were to buy 6 of their full sized products the total would be . That’s a crazy amount to pay for beauty products but then again can you put a price on great skin?
