Okay, let me be honest with you: I don’t usually like lip oils. The only one I’ve ever kept before was from Rituel de Fille that one had to work overtime to win me over. But when Byoma launched their lip oils, I thought, why not? I already love their skincare (their moisturiser is a staple in my routine), so I gave the BYOMA Liptide Lip Oil a go.

Spoiler alert: I was actually impressed.
Lip oils have always felt like thinner lip glosses to me – slippery, shiny, and not that hydrating. Plus, that distinct lip oil fragrance? Yeah, not a fan. So, my expectations for the BYOMA Liptide Lip Oil were low.
But here’s the thing: it surprised me.
BYOMA’s Liptide Lip Oil actually feels like skincare, not just makeup pretending to be skincare. After using it, my lips felt noticeably softer, smoother, and more hydrated – and trust me, I have dry lips no matter how much water I should be drinking. Over a few days, I even noticed a subtle plumping effect. Nothing dramatic, just my lips but a bit fuller, which I’m totally okay with.
I’d heard about issues with the packaging leaking when these first launched, and unfortunately, it does seem to be a problem. While mine hasn’t leaked too badly, I have noticed some product around the cap after it’s been in my bag. The mask stays fine upright in my cabinet, but if you’re someone who throws lip oils into your bag regularly, you might want to keep an eye on it.
Now, it’s not all sunshine and hydration. The lip oil still has that typical lip oil fragrance – think Nyx Fat Oil vibes but less intense – which isn’t my fave but it’s tolerable. It also feels more like a thin gloss than an oil on the lips, though it does sink in faster than my Glow Recipe balm and doesn’t have that heavy, Vaseline-y texture I usually hate.
BYOMA’s always been known for its affordable, effective skincare, and their lip products follow suit. At around £10 each, the lip oil feels like a solid, budget-friendly option that actually deliver results.
Surprisingly, yes. As a self-confessed lip oil skeptic, I’m genuinely impressed with BYOMA’s lip oil and mask. They give my lips that soft, hydrated feel I crave without being as sticky or fake-feeling as most lip oils. While it hasn’t entirely converted me into a lip oil lover, it’s easily one of the best I’ve tried.
Just keep in mind the potential leaking issue – hopefully, BYOMA continues to tweak the packaging because the formula really is worth it.
So, if you’re like me and typically roll your eyes at lip oils, this one might just change your mind. Or at the very least, it won’t leave you regretting your purchase.
