Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturiser Review

Let’s talk about skincare for a sec, especially as the warmer weather is on it’s way, I feel like I need to find something in time for those sweltering days that won’t leave me a greasy mess. 😅 If you’ve got sensitive skin, easily irritated patches, or you’re just on the hunt for a no-nonsense hydrating moisturiser that actually works, let me introduce you to your new bathroom shelf essential: the Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturiser.

I’ve been using this little beauty for a few weeks now, and honestly? I’m obsessed.

First Impressions: Packaging & Texture

Okay, first up, the new glass jar. Love. It feels a bit more premium than the old plastic tubs and looks way nicer on my skincare shelf. Bonus points for being more sustainable too!

When I opened the jar, I was instantly into the texture. It’s a lightweight gel-cream, somewhere between a jelly and a lotion. It absorbs quickly, but still leaves your skin feeling soft, bouncy, and hydrated. No greasy finish, no stickiness. Just smooth, fresh skin.

And the lack of fragrance? A massive win. Fragrance is one of the top things that can irritate sensitive skin, so I appreciate Aveeno leaving it out completely. It’s just clean, effective skincare.

Key Ingredients: What Makes It So Calming?

Here’s where this moisturiser really shines.

Prebiotic Oat – This is Aveeno’s signature ingredient, and it’s known to soothe, nourish, and help restore the skin barrier. Think of it as a gentle shield for your skin—especially if your barrier’s been damaged by harsh weather, over-exfoliating, or general life stress.

Calming Feverfew – Sounds fancy, but it’s actually a natural ingredient with antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. It helps reduce redness and calm irritation, making it ideal for anyone who experiences flare-ups or sensitivity.

Together, these ingredients are a dream team for calming, comforting, and strengthening compromised or reactive skin.

It’s also:

✔ Dermatologist tested

✔ Non-comedogenic (so it won’t clog pores)

✔ Hypoallergenic

✔ Perfect for normal to dry skin

Basically, it’s a moisturiser that actually respects sensitive skin.

How I Use It

I’ve been using the Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturiser every morning after cleansing and applying a hydrating serum after. It works beautifully under SPF and makeup with no pilling or no weird dry down patches either. In the evening, I’ll use it on nights when my skin needs a break from actives (like retinol or exfoliating acids) and just wants to chill.

My favourite thing to do recently on the hot evenings is to use it as a 10-minute moisture mask. I’ll slather on a thicker layer while I do emails or scroll on TikTok, and then gently pat in the excess. Instant cooling comfort.

Final Thoughts: Is it worth it?

In short: yes, yes, yes.

If you’re dealing with dry, sensitive, or easily irritated skin, this moisturiser is a game-changer. It’s gentle, calming, and hydrating without being heavy or greasy. It’s one of those products that just quietly does its job and does it really well.

And for the price (usually under £15 depending on where you buy), it honestly feels like a steal.

Whether your skin is having a meltdown, or you just want something reliable to keep things balanced, the Aveeno Calm + Restore Oat Gel Moisturiser is 100% worth a try.

Is this also suitable for winter?

    • Rosie says:

Absolutely! If you have drier skin in winter I would shift to not a gel but if you don’t have a problem with dryness then definitely
