If there is one brand that you’ll be hearing a lot about from me this year it is without a doubt REN skincare. They have transformed my skin in a matter of weeks and I’m shouting from the rooftops about it! The product that I’m going to be talking to you about today is the REN Glow Daily Vitamin C Gel Cream. For pure transparency I was gifted this product to review in December to trial and review before it’s official release in January. I wrote up a first impressions initially 3 weeks into using the product and now that I’m 7 weeks into using it I’m rewriting this to give you all a proper review.
So REN describe this product as a ‘glow-giving face moisturiser that’s irritation free, and friendly to all skin types and skin tones. Yep, now even sensitive skins can get their glow’. Moisturisers for ALL skin types are non existent and not great for a reason. It’s a bold claim and I was eager to find out how it would respond to my combination/sensitive skin.
With a brightening blend of stabilised natural bio-actives aka (Vitamin C, Magnesium and Tara Pod extract) REN have created a face cream that enhances your natural radiance, so you can glow your own way. Intriguing. I had heard of using Vitamin C for a brightening effect but I had not heard much about the other 2 ingredients. It turns out that they have the following benefits.
Vitamin CHelps reduce hyperpigmentation, even skin tone, reduce fine lines and wrinkles and protect from pollution damage.
MagnesiumHelps hydrate skin, reduce flakiness and increase luminosity.
Tara Pod ExtractWorks on skin contact to even skin tone, provide anti-inflammatory action and reduce redness.
I’m not going to lie, I was impressed before I had even tried the product! Time to put it to the test though. The packaging is the usual REN branding with the product encased in a plastic tube with a pump. The pump allows you to control exactly how much product you need and is great for hygeine reasons too. I definitely approve. I like that you’re also able to see exactly how much product you’ve used and got left.
The product is opaque/white in colour with an orange tinge. It’s barely noticable but the smell of orange is prominent. Generally I’m not a fan of orange smells but this isn’t too overpowering and fades fast. The product is very light in consistency and easy to work into your skin. I did have a quick check to see if any artificial fragrancing is used and I’m happy to report that this scent is all natural.
One pump is enough to cover my entire face, even on the days when my skin is feeling particularly dry. As I mentioned previously, it sinks into my skin really quickly and dries without a sticky residue. It’s not left greasy either which I’m super happy about.
The one noticeable thing that I find when using REN Glow Daily Vitamin C Gel Cream is that my skin feels SO smooth, almost as if I’ve used a primer. Obviously this means that my makeup is sitting incredibly well and because it’s so moisturised, there’s no flaky dry bits (That I usually always get halfway through the day on the sides of my nose).
In terms of hydration I am very happy with this product. With regards to glowing, in the first 3 weeks I didn’t notice too much of a difference. My summer tan was fading but I was still getting spots so I wasn’t too certain about the difference it was making. By week 5-6 my spots had subsided (due to a change up in my skincare which I promise I’ll post about) and it was only that week (6) that I looked in the mirror and was surprised at how even my skin tone was looking. For someone who has acne for most of their life, this is a BIG deal. even the rare times I haven’t had spots I had marks that I was dealing with but this product was really helping to fade them quickly.
Another selling point for me is the fact that the moisturiser has no harsh chemicals and did not irritate my skin one bit! There’s no stinging or tightness when I use it. The brand is also huge on dedicating themselves to being cruelty-free.
Let’s talk price – it is £38 for 50ml. I know on first glance it sounds like a lot but if I compared it to other popular moisturisers, for example Clinique Moisture surge is £36 for 50ml. So really, it’s quite competitive.
It’s also worth noting that because it has a controlled pump, it’s very easy to control how much you’re using and believe me, a little goes a long way. Although this particular product was gifted to me, there is no doubt in my mind that I will repurchase this.
The product is available to buy from all good retailers and the REN website. Alternatively shop this product here.
