I love a good gander down a Christmas market. All the home made nick nacks and the fancy hot chocolates get me in the festive spirit. This year seems to be the year that London is just one big Christmas market! Every corner seems to have one so naturally I’ve visited almost all of them and rounded up a list of the best:
25th November to 26th November
Where: Guildhall, Gresham Street, City of London, EC2V 7HH
We’re starting off bang in the middle of the City of London! The Guildhall Market is on for just two days and the biggest incentive for getting down there is that the market provides a shopping experience that also gives back in the form of helping the Red Cross!
29 November – 22 December
Where: Canopy Market, West Handyside Canopy, 1 Wharf Road, Kings Cross, N1C 4BZ
Open each day in the run-up to Christmas the covered market, each week will have a different theme. There will be tons of workshops and classes to take part in too so it’s definitely worth checking out. Oh, and there’ll be live jazz too!
Where: Here East, Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park, Hackney, E15 2GW
Here East is one of my FAVE hidden gems in London. Just a short distance from the hustle and bustle of Stratford Westfield there’s calm by the canal.
This year, Merrymaking Christmas Market returns to Here East bringing with it festive workshops (think candle making and pom-pom decorations!), plus all the usual Christmas market stuff. Shoppers can buy ethical products from designers, including ceramics, homeware, jewellery, artworks and beauty products.
Nordic food and gifts are coming to Rotherhithe this November and bringing us some festive cheer. I’ve never actually been to this one but I’m imagining lots of warm, cosy things that will bring Hygge to our lives. Yes please.
Eat, drink and be merry as the Hampton Court Palace courtyards are transformed into a food-lover’s Christmas wonderland at the Festive Fayre 2019. Lot’s of handmade goodies and plenty of food and drink to keep your bellies full. Just how our Henry would have liked it! They’ve also got an ice rink just outside the palace too!
Overlooking the River Thames, the Winter Market is an idyllic setting for a Christmas Market.
Traders from around the world set up their stalls of seasonal gifts and trinkets throughout the festive season. There is also an incredible array of food vendors where you’ll find traditional treats as well as more esoteric takes on Christmas cooking from Asian, Indian and Greek pop-ups.
If you don’t want to be overwhelmed with the crazy footfall in central London then perhaps Ealing Christmas Market is the place for you. Open for a month of Christmas shopping, the market occupies a good square-footage within the shopping centre, with cabins devoted to all manner of festive products.
Tobacco Dock is transformed into a winter wonderland packed with some of my favourite restaurants and chefs as the whole place become foodie heaven. Definitely worth the ticket price (tickets MUST be booked in advance!).
26th November to Sunday 5th January
Where: London Bridge City, Southwark, SE1 2DB
Don’t fancy taking a trip to the Alps to experience an Alpine market? Well now there’s no need, because London is bringing it to you. Hot toddies and delivious food are all available to complete the lineup for the fifth year of Christmas by the River. Soak in the epic views over a mince pie whilst you marvel at one of the most iconic landmarks in the world.
November 8 until January 5, 2019
Where: Leicester Square
As well as great food and drink, you’ll find a Spiegeltent, playing host to a bunch of performances curated by the same Underbelly team who bring an array of performers to the Southbank each summer. Olivier Award-winning variety show La Clique will be there and ready to grab Christmas by the baubles, while gentleman juggler Florian Brooks, fire-breathing Heather Holliday, and cabaret sensastion Bernie Dieter will also be in attendance. The perfect evening out in the run up to Christmas!
