Do you use protection? VO5 Heat Protect Styling Spray Review

I’ll be honest, I don’t practise safe straightening. I never have. I just don’t have a lot of patience with my hair. I like to leave it out and I prefer the messy bed-head look over straight and sleek. Recently though, I’ve noticed my hair becoming more dry and damaged. Perhaps it’s the endless straightening & blow drying or perhaps my refusal to use a conditioner after shampooing for years (until I discovered this beauty that is). Still struggling to tame that frizz, I even tried out a Brazilian keratin treatment in the hopes for more manageable silky locks. In all fairness, it was brilliant….for the 3 months that it lasted. As with everything though, all good things come to an end and I was back to square one. I decided to make a change in my hair care routine and look after my hair a little bit more.

Since giving up my GHD’s was a no-no, I decided to look into a decent heat protective spray that would do exactly what I needed. 

I wondered the aisles of Boots countless times before I finally mustered up the courage to ask a staff member what she would recommend. Her hair was FLAWLESS. Fighting the urge to run my fingers through her shiny raven  locks, I asked her what she used and she beckoned me over to the VO5 range and handed me a bottle of VO5 Heat Protect Styling spray.

As a brand VO5 hasn’t ever really appealed to me. I don’t dislike it, but it’s never intrigued me either. They had a strong advert a good few years back but again, hair care hasn’t been my priority over the past few years.. Since I was a novice I wasn’t sure what to expect really. My main worry was that I’d end up having greasy hair on the day that I washed it, or even the next day. Still, I had purchased it now and so I put it to the test.

The packaging is a hot pink plastic bottle which is easy to hold. The nozzle is a press down plastic mechanism which I find quite difficult to use. It might just be that it’s a faulty bottle or my ridiculously weak strength but even still it’s annoying.
Other than that it’s really easy to use, one spray covers a lot of hair and the product itself is extremely light. It doesn’t feel heavy or greasy once it’s on and it’s very easy to brush through. After leaving it for a few moment’s to settle down I’m read to use my straighteners. The smell is a fresh fragrance and it doesn’t mask the smell of my shampoo which I really love!

I’ve noticed a definite improvement in how much healthier and smoother my hair is looking. Where I had to run the straightener over my hair countless times to get anywhere before, I found that this protector just makes it easier. My hair has started falling out a lot less too, so if anything that’s probably the biggest reason why I’ll continue using this product. I would definitely recommend you invest in one too.
