Eve Lom Morning Time Cleanser Review

I generally find balm cleansers weird to work with. I know that they are amazing at getting all the makeup products and dirt off in one cleanse whilst nourishing the skin and not stripping it of it’s oils; however, even if there’s no greasy residue, I always feel like my skin isn’t squeaky clean and there’s some sort of residue left behind. I had been given the Eve Lom Morning Time Cleanser in my Look Fantastic box not so long ago and to be honest I had been putting off using it.

Morning Time Cleanser

Now that ramadan has kicked in, I’m finding my skin more dry and slightly dehydrated than usual so I’m switching up my skincare routine.

I dug out my Eve Lom Morning Time Cleanser and hoped it would help with my new skin concerns. I hadn’t heard too much about this version of the cleanser so I thought I’d do a bit of research into what the brand says it does:

Product description:
A lightweight balm for Cleansing-Exfoliating-Reviving. Face each day feeling renewed and looking radiant. This quick and easy rinse off cleansing balm is the perfect companion to the legendary Eve Lom cleanser. Its signature blend of aromatic Hops for its skin toning properties, Eucalyptus to keep skin radiant and glowing, Egyptian Chamomile oil to soothe, and Clove Oil for antiseptic benefits; leaves the skin soothed, refreshed and glowing. The addition of Papaya Fruit Enzymeexfoliates the skin gently and helps to decongest and minimise the appearance of pores; whilst Carrot Oil, an excellent source of pro-vitamin-A helps stimulate collagen production, also suitable for removing makeup. The morning time cleanser is designed to revive the skin upon waking. For optimum results, combine the use of the Morning Time Cleanser with the original Eve Lom Cleanser in the evenings for healthy looking, radiant skin. Suitable for all skin types and makeup removal.

Alright so having read that I was completely sold. It seemed to have everything in it and do everything that I would want a cleanser to do.

I’m so glad that unlike the original Eve Lom Cleanser (that comes in a tub) this one doesn’t have any mineral oil in nor does it have any exfoliating particles. They’ve really gone for the ‘gentle’ cleansing approach with this one.

NB: Mineral oil is a colourless and odourless oil that’s very controversial in the cosmetology world. It is derived from Petroleum and is said to clog pores and could contain toxins (but this can be debated!) but my main reason for avoiding it is that it doesn’t actually provide any benefit to putting it on your skin. Also, having acne prone skin, I stay away from anything that could clog pores.

The cleanser comes in a white squeeze tube with an amazing lid mechanism. Instead of having to faff around with removing and replacing a cap on/off the tube, they’ve built one into it. So now all you gave to do is twist the cap clockwise to open up a small hole to squeeze out the contents. To close, turn the cap anticlockwise. I love how hygienic this is, especially compared to the tub of the original.

The consistency is of a thick balm which then turns into an oil like substance once you start working it into your skin. The balm feels so lightweight that you can rinse it off just like a wash off cleanser and don’t even need to wipe over with a flannel or cloth. Another welcomed change from the original. There are papaya enzymes in the formulation, which help to gently exfoliate the skin. Due to the gentle nature, it’s perfectly fine for daily use.

The smell is…an acquired smell. For some, I’m not going to lie it will assault your senses. It smells like antiseptic or cough sweets (that would be the clove oil) and you can get a whiff of Eucalyptus in there too. Luckily, it doesn’t linger after you’ve washed it off, so it’s not too bad.

Eve Lom Morning Time Cleanser

With it being a gentle cleanser, I think it’s important to note that it’s exactly that. It doesn’t strip your face so naturally, it doesn’t remove all traces of makeup. It’s definitely amazing as part of a double cleanse though so don’t be disheartened. It’s gentle nature makes it a great choice for sensitive, combination, oily or problematic skin type.

The downside for me has to be the price. It’s not cheap at £40.00 for 125ml but judging by the small amount that I’ve been needing to cleanse my entire face, it will last me quite a while. Plus as I always say, you only get one skin so it’s worth investing in.

Would I recommend this product? If you have dry or very sensitive skin then this is definitely something worth investing in.

Would I buy this product again? My skin is rarely extremely dry, and I like my face to feel squeaky clean because I wear full coverage foundation so I’m so not so sure I would. Perhaps after I’ve used it for longer I might change my mind though, as I do quite like it.
