The Week Where I Embraced 2018

Happy Sunday!

I haven’t done one of these posts in a while and I kind of liked having a weekly roundup so I’m hoping to continue this throughout 2018. So let’s get stuck in 🙂

What I’m eating and drinking:

Shrimp! I’ve never been a fan of prawns. I always thought they look kinda raw and the taste is meh…but recently they’ve really grown on me! I finally visited Busaba Eathai and I LOVED their chilli prawn dish. It’s kinda like the prawn firecracker in Wagamama but the food and atmosphere is way better. Less canteen and more restaurant.

Shrimp Shack Mac and Cheese – Shrimp Shack Mac and Cheese from Bubba Gump Shrimp Co. is sooo good. Pricey, but good. The review will be up tomorrow *I hope*

What I’m watching:

jumanji

Jumanji – finally went to watch Jumanji and oh my goodness what the flips was that all about. They really really really should not have made this film. The whole essence of the story was lost in order to get a few cheap laughs. I wish they could just erase it from cinematic history, that is how strongly I feel about it.

Phantom of the Opera – I also finally went to see the longest running broadway show. Read more about it here.

I haven’t yet had a chance to catch up on Black Mirror but I’m saving it for next week when my sister moves back into her own home and I can concentrate fully. I’ve heard nothing but good things about the latest season and a really big food blogger worked on the visual effects on one of the episodes so I can’t wait to watch. What’s been your fave episode?

What I’m reading:

In a bid to get back into reading, I’m going to ease myself into it and start off with a “self help” non-fiction book. I’ve decided to go for Derren Brown’s Happy: Why More or Less Everything is Absolutely Fine.
I have mixed feelings about Derren Brown writing a book, I mean he is an amazingly brilliant entertainer/illusionist. I’ve seen him live and he’s just as Charismatic in person but does that qualify him to be a philosopher? Well I guess I’m about to find out. It’s also 99p on Amazon at the moment if you want to read it too (please do so I have someone to discuss it with!)

Caroline Hirons no bullshit guide to What to leave in 2017 when it comes to skincare. Especially what she says about Dermatologists recommending La Roche Posay, Avene and Vichy and Bioderma repeatedly. This is SO annoying and like Caroline I’m over all their ‘affordable’ recommendations.

What I’m lusting after:

damzelinthisdress

I’m actually looking for a replacement coinpurse. A cute one with a metal clasp. It’s really very specific thing that I’m after and in all honesty I can’t find one anywhere. I did however discover that Warehouse (and Oasis) on Argyll Street do monogramming on their leather products. It’s looks so cute! Definitely something I’ll be purchasing in the near future, when I’m not in overdraft!

I am also loving the Longchamp coin pouch. I was never a real fan of the Longchamp bag but these are just really sweet. Now I just need to decide on a colour. Which is your fave?

What else:
Digital Detoxing – I’ve been really overwhelmed with my phone recently. I’m bad enough responding to messages as it is but with WhatsApp it just seems to be never ending. I decided to start the new year with a complete digital detox. Iv’e turned off all my notifications and although I couldn’t quite manage with my mobile data turned off, I’m less tempted to constantly check my phone. It’s been just a few days and honestly, I’m really loving it. As great as it is to keep in touch with everyone, I’m really working on not owing anyone anything (including quick responses to messages).
