Beauty sleep for me is a must. Without a full 8 hours rest, my dark circles (perks of being South Asian!) are out in all their glory. Thanks to my genetics, I have probably tried every single concealer in the book and at some point I will get round to writing all my reviews up, I promise. If you’re a regular around here you’ll know that I love my trusted MAC Prolongwear and rarely stray from it. A few weeks ago however I had the opportunity of getting my makeup done by one of the extremely talented makeup artists at Urban Decay in Stratford Westfield branch.
When it came to covering my dark circles I was so tempted to pull out my trusty concealer but I fought my urges and let her work her magic. By the time my makeover was complete I was in awe at how great and lifted my under eye area looked! She told me it was all down to their Naked Skin Weightless Complete Coverage Concealer.
Obviously I bought it on the spot. I purchased shade Medium-Light Neutral which actually describes my skin tone perfectly. It’s not too orange that it emphasises my dark circles and the ‘Light’ness helps to brighten the colour a little bit.
The real test however was me (the absolute makeup novice) trying it out on myself at home.
So the packaging comes in a glass tube which I can only describe as what you would find lipgloss to come in. The wand is thinner and longer than usual lip products which I really like because it’s easy for me to get into the corners of my eyes. It also helps me be more precise when using it to highlight and conceal around my brows. The brush is also slightly flat footed which I like. It helps to spread the concealer out more evenly. My only issue with the packaging is that there is no rubber seal which helps wipe off any excess product. Instead I’ve been finding that it gets a little bit messy (all over the wand) and I feel like I might be losing product.
Unlike the MAC concealer there is no smell/scent – major plus points from me because the MAC one actually stinks. If it wasn’t such a great concealer I would’ve ditched it a long long time ago!
Now for the good bit, the coverage is just dreamy. The consistency is like a cream so it spreads really well. Since it’s not runny it means that there’s no streak marks either and I definitely don’t need to layer the product because it’s so well pigmented.
In terms of longevity, the concealer stays in place my entire working day which is 8-10 hours. Pretty impressive. It doesn’t crease, get patchy or start to crumble like other brands have done so. My eyes are very sensitive and they water a lot, luckily this doesn’t affect the concealer either!
The swatch photo below has not been altered in any way and was literally one layer of the concealer. It covers the prominent blue veins in my arm so well.
The Urban Decay Naked Skin concealer dries very easily and doesn’t leave a sheen. I mean it’s not completely matte but it eventually does dry to an almost matte finish. This means, it doesn’t draw attention to the area due to extra shine, doesn’t start to crease and because it’s the formula isn’t drying it doesn’t end up looking cake-y either. I really love that I don’t *need* to set this concealer with powder. On a work day, I don’t have time to be faffing around with powder and a brush.
One thing I have to mention is that it does oxidise a little so swatch it first and let it dry before you make your decision. The medium-light look a lot lighter when it’s first applied and I do sometimes think ‘good god, I have ashy under eyes’ when I first put it on but once i’ve finished up my whole face it’s just perfect.
Priced at £19 it’s cheaper than both MAC and NARS and in my opinion, it’s better than both! Will I be purchasing this product again? 100% YES! Aside from the small issue with the packaging, I really can’t fault it. It does exactly what I want from a concealer without any of the fuss.
