It’s official! I’m obsessed. Liquid lipsticks have revolutionalised lip products for me. I’ve never been a huge lipstick wearer, hoarder yes, wearer not so much.
This month, I was so pleased that I got the chance to attend Olympia beauty and even more excited when I saw the NYX stand. There were very few people there which actually gave me a chance to browse and when I saw the soft matte lip cream I knew I had to get some.
The Soft Matte Lip Cream is marketed as “neither lipstick nor lip gloss, this matte lip cream is a new kind of lip colour that goes on silky smooth and sets to a matte finish. Soft Matte Lip Cream is surprisingly durable and unlike some matte lipstick formulas also moisturizing.” Sounds dreamy!
The lip cream comes in a small bottle that looks a lot like a lipgloss. It has a doe foot applicator wand too which makes it so much easier to use on your lips than a tube of lipstick. Especially if your lips are quite small like mine. Luckily the packaging is plastic so no worries about it smashing either. They’re small in size it’s so easy to pop into a clutch bag if you’re headed out. They might look mini but they’re mighty powerful.
The formula is highly pigmented, if you look at the picture below, the swatch was literally a very light stroke across my arm. The colour is so vibrant, I love it. The lip cream itself is a creamy consistence, in between a lipgloss and lipstick but without the stickiness. It takes about 30 seconds for it to fully dry on your lips and once it’s on it will stay on. I wouldn’t go as far as saying it’s permanent but the hold is at least 5 times more than a normal lipstick, and this includes high end ones. I love that the colour doesn’t transfer (much!) to glasses when you’re eating so less need to top your lipstick up. If however you lick your lips a lot or are drinking and your lips get wet then of course it’s bound to come off a little.
I’ll be honest, I didn’t find this product as drying as the Anastasia Beverly Hills liquid lipstick. I did however give it a go with wearing some lip balm underneath and it just made it look even better.
You do have to be a little careful when buying Soft Matte Lip Cream’s because the colour of the bottle isn’t always the colour of the product. I thought Milan would be a rosey nude colour but when I opened it up, it was quite a bit brighter. Nonetheless, Milan is a stunning shade. Coincidentally it resembles Milan Mode by MAC, so if you like that you will definitely love this on you.
Priced at just £5.50 I think these little beauties are worth every penny. In fact they’re so popular that they’re really hard to get hold of, especially here in the UK, but if you do have a chance to get your hands on some, I can guarantee you won’t regret it.
