Illamasqua Lipstick In Brink Review

Illamasqua is a firm favourite of mine when it comes to makeup brands. When they first stepped out into the beauty world they made a presence. I had never been so excited to see what a brand had to offer and to date they’re always being innovative with their products and marketing.

I have only very recently gotten into lipsticks and so when I was able to purchase an illamasqua lipstick at a bargain price (£3 can you believe!) I couldn’t say no. I love my nudes and matte shades so I decided to stick with what I know best and opted for the colour Brink.

The colour itself is very hard to photograph. A quick google search shows that I’m not the only one. It’s less of a baby pink and more of a pinky coral. It’s quite bright for a nude but in a pretty way. The packaging is Illamasqua’s signature sleek black tube.

The lipstick is a matte finish and although it’s not drying initially, after a few hours my lips do start feeling very dry. I’d recommend moisturing your lips beforehand to keep the look and feel of the product at it’s best. The formula for the lipstick itself is very pigmented and glides on easily on my hand, however on my lips it’s a different story. Unless I’ve scrubbed my lips beforehand, it picks up on certain areas more than others. This means I’ve got to put on two or three layers. It’s very difficult to get an even and immaculate coverage. I’m quite weird about how lipsticks smell too, but I like that this one has a very slight hint of cocoa butter.

The lasting power of this lipstick is about 3-4 hours, it does transfer quite a bit but again it leaves my lips looking quite patchy after a while so I have to keep checking that my lipstick doesn’t look messy.

Now my other dislike about this product has nothing to do with the brand or product itself, it’s the colour. It just doesn’t suit my skin tone. I believe it would look fantastic on pale skinned girls but if you’re Indian or even olive skin toned I really wouldn’t recommend you go for this shade as it’s not complimentary at all. Overall, I definitely wouldn’t opt to buy this shade again and due to the coverage, I’d be reluctant to try another shade. Still, perhaps it’s just this lipstick and maybe I might just try out a different, darker shade but with so many brilliant high end brands, it won’t be any time soon.

Have you tried any other Illamasqua lipsticks?
